OCERCOMING THE ENERGY CRISIS REQUIRES THE HELP OF EVERYONE
The energy crisis has affected Kosovo for more than a month now. The European energy market, of which Kosovo is also a part, is facing five times more expensive prices compared to last year.
These soaring prices, which go over 300 euros per MWh, are being paid by KEDS and KESCO companies, and don’t include the prices for cross-border capacities, which further affect the final price of imported energy.
Although faced with costs beyond the allowable ones, KEDS and KESCO are carrying the financial burden on their shoulders and are doing their best to supply consumers with electricity even in these times of crisis. But, our financial possibilities are exhausted to the end as a result of facing high prices.
In this difficult energy situation, KEDS and KESCO, as well as the companies of the energy sector of European countries, seek the help of all actors of the energy sector and relevant institutions, so as not to make this difficult road alone and that this situation should affect consumers as little as possible at this time, but also in the future.
We have reflected the aggravated situation in which we are in the Task Force created by the Ministry of Economy, and also by cooperating and reporting directly to the highest state institutions. We are ready to cooperate with all parties so that this situation is overcome as easily as possible for all.
Now that we are entering the winter season, we are witnessing a trend of increasing consumption, which mainly occurs as most of the country's citizens are heating with electricity. Although the production capacities in the country have increased in recent years, this increase is not linear with the demanded increase for electricity consumption, and respectively this large difference, especially during peak times, should be covered through imports.
Dependence on imports exposes us to the movement of import prices in international markets, and prices in international markets are currently unaffordable. Import costs as such were not foreseen during the last tariff review, therefore, the need for financial support for the energy sector is necessary and immediate. The crisis is most easily overcome with the joining of forces, and we as a company are open to cooperation and finding the best possible solution for all.
